election irregularities

[livejournal.com profile] ragdoll has the info, including who to email and by when (Thursday).

Even if you don't give a damn about politics (American or otherwise), I ask ya - please just give it a read. Even if there is nothing malicious going on, it sure as hell would be nice to know that for sure, wouldn't it?

</public service announcement>

(And yes, I STILL don't have a good "politics" icon. Damn!)

I read the whole thing. Unfortunately, while insane, this doesn't really surprise me. There is power in politics - and the power pulls the strings, both blatantly and subtly, as do the players with the money and the connections. I don't think the average citizen has a chance to ever know what's really going on. And I have wondered for quite a while now about all the discrepancies.

Very disheartening.

I think the average citizen WOULD have a chance if we had a paper trail on these voting machines! I've already emailed my senators regarding this. Yeah, I could be cynical and just say my note is going off into the void where no one but an underpaid intern or staffer will see it, but I'm not ready to abandon myself to that much despair (yet?)

Disheartened, no, not me :P

Very scary stuff. I hope Canada NEVER goes to electronic voting ... it's becoming obvious that there are FAR too many ways it can be messed with.

Do you have something in mind or is this a case of you'll know it when you see it? Maybe we could have a little "find-the-perfect-icon-image" contest. ;-)

Barring malfeasance, electronic voting systems as they are now have no paper trail and are just poorly designed. But you knew that, so I'll stop preaching to the choir ;)

Re: Politics icon - I'll know it when I see it, but it has to be suitably snarky. Maybe I'll just stay with ol' Fizzgig :P
