Ignobel awards

With all the discussion about the Nobel Prizes at [livejournal.com profile] tommdroid's journal and elsewhere, I thought I'd include the venerable Igs. For those who haven't heard of them, the awards are given to real scientific papers and studies, but one sometimes wonders how these studies ever got funding - and that's part of the humor, IMHO :P

Among this year's winners: the Ig for Public Health went to a study investigating the Five Second Rule, Engineering went to the guys that patented the combover, and Medicine went to the paper "The Effect of Country Music on Suicide".

Enjoy, and have a snicker - it's all for science!

LOL!!!! The country music/suicide one reminded me of a radio documentary I heard while driving through northern Ontario many years ago (there's NO choice of radio stations up there!) ... the program was on sound frequency triggers of epileptic seizures and, at one point, the presenter named several singers whose voices were especially dangerous to people with epilepsy (I remember that Barbara Mandrell was #1 on the seizure trigger list, but can't recall any of the other names).
