appeal to the masses: snack suggestion?

I find that I am coming home STARVING, and the only things I have to snack on are fairly high carb - either candy or white pita bread. Not good if you're trying to stay low-carb.

Does anyone have any suggestions to get me away from the bready/sugary stuff? I was thinking nuts or cold cuts, but I'm curious to hear what y'all have to say.

Cheese, although when I want something chewy, I like beef jerky.

I keep a stash of either peanuts or soy nuts at work for afternoon snacking. Sometimes cold cuts, or maybe some cheese. If I really crave something more than just cheese, I add wheat crackers in moderation.

When I was on Atkins, I found that garlic summer sausage & cheese helped. Or a salad of fresh mozzarella, basil, tomatoes & vinegar. Which isn't completely low carb, but very filling.

All of these sound promising, esp. the nuts and sausage (assuming I can find low fat ones). Thanks (and feel free to keep 'em coming!)
