you know it's a cold day in hell...

... when historic enemies France and Germany agree on something. Namely, they're both against the U.S. government's eagerness to go bust heads in Iraq before the UN inspectors have fully inspected.

I'm sympathetic to the German and French position, but peeved with the ambassadors for breaking faith with Colin Powell in terms of maintaining a united front of moderates. The net effect of the French and German action may be to undercut Powell so badly that Rumsfeld is able to force a war faster.

In particular, there's no evidence to support the statement the German ambassador made that the inspections are working. It's simply too soon to tell.
