and another thing

This whole Palmer/Pletsch fitting thing has reminded me yet again that bodies aren't perfect and off the rack doesn't (and probably can't) accommodate every deviation from the (fictional) "norm". I've not done a body map yet, but it's kind of a relief to know that someone has come up with a plan that acknowledges and addresses uneven shoulders, long torsos, short legs, and the like. As Already Pretty so succinctly puts it, it's not you, it's the clothes.

I don't know what the solution is. Not everyone can make their own clothes and I certainly don't make all of mine. I'm trying to resign myself to the fact that nothing I purchase is going to fit perfectly and so not get bent out of shape about it. Tailoring is an option, if you can do it yourself or have a good dry cleaner - evidently this is the trick celebs use to look effortlessly fabulous - yes, they even have t shirts fitted(!) So they're not perfect either - they just have better resources than us ordinary mortals :P

At the end of the day, I guess aim for best fit and keep it clean and in good repair. After all there's more to life than clothes.

To quote my middle sister: "There's no such thing as a human built to clothing manufacturers' specifications."

No kidding. Be grateful y'all learned this early - life's too short to be angsting over not being a size "x"!

Am grateful for a combo of that and growing up where nobody had any money, everybody wore hand-me-downs from various eras, and "in fashion" was a fictional thing occasionally read about or seen on tv. ;p

Dude! That article is great! I reposted it on FB and got an interesting response from a guy who is now taking pains to wear more form-fitting clothes and having a hard time with it.

It IS so frustrating. My ren faire dress was custom made for me and it is the most delicious thing to wear. Truly, having a wardrobe full of custom tailored clothes would be divine.

I'm glad you got such a good response. Thank you for pointing out that it's not just women that have this problem - ever since the men's styles got slimmer I imagine many more guys are struggling with fit.

I know a few costumers who wear sweats/jeans in their "mundane" lives but lavish attention on their historical costumes for just the reason you mention above - better fit = better looking and more comfortable!

Yeah, that slim guy's style has changed some dudes. I can see more of them walking around sucking it in!

I, for one, will be glad when this whole skinny jeans and really long, fitted tops goes away. I have a short torso, small boobs and curvy hips, which DOES NOT work with any of the aforementioned styles. I'm sick of buying tops that come down to my thighs! I have to fight the urge to cut them off at my waist because they look so stupid.
