a modest vent

And I'll try to make this the last bitching on this subject for this winter -

I'm tired of being cold, dried out, and sleepy. Temperature falls below 30F and I'm having to fight the urge to hibernate. Getting up and out to work/exercise feels like I'm dragging around 20 lbs of bricks, and I really need the exercise because it's getting harder to resist eating snack machine junk.

On top of this I'm resisting a cold - successfully so far, but while my throat is no worse it's no better either.

And a snowpocalypse is coming this weekend. Which sounds serene and pretty until I remind myself that I have to make it to the post office and grocery before it hits sometime tomorrow night.

So during a time when I really oughta be staying home with a hot drink I'm going to have to button up and get out in it. And I don't even get to fence :(

Shutting up now.

It's weather. It's winter. You're SUPPOSED to bitch about it. And the humidity where you are means the human body chill factor feels the same as the nastier temps in the nearly-humidity-free zone where I am (I've experienced both climate types ... trust me, every 5% of humidity subtracts 10 degrees)

Something that does help, along with the usual SAD remedies of bright colours and light, are traditional winter comfort foods of the hot, savory/gooey casserole variety (pasta/rice/barley with lots of veggies & meat & sauce) and thick, drink-from-a-mug soups. I know you can't get my beloved green soup down there (not yet, anyway), but try to stick as much of an iron & B-vitamin boost into this as you can. My personal favourite trick is adding spinach or kale in homemade baked macaroni and cheese ... adds a pretty touch of dark green and all you can taste is the cheese.

And, of course, high-grade hot chocolate ... but I figured you didn't have to be told that one. ;-)

P.S. And if you don't take them, cod liver oil gel caps ... the vitamin D boost should also help and as a bonus side effect, you'll find your skin feels less dry too.
