thrift score

...or how I made something ok into something better.

I used to thrift a lot in college, but got out of the habit due to lack of time. However, I was dropping some things off at Goodwill and on a whim stopped in to browse the racks. I found this:

hot pink shrunken jacket

Yes, I know - hot pink! A color I DON'T wear except on very special occasions. But it fit well, was only $7, and didn't have to stay pink.

Having dyed pink over with burgundy before, I knew I stood a chance of getting decent results, so I picked up cheapie Rit dye at the grocery. Developed with HOT water and salt, I got the following:

elegantly subdued

Even with the poor quality photo you can see it's not as blisteringly bright, and IRL is a clear burgundy.

Also snipped off the tacky plastic buttons and am replacing them with these - something of a novelty for me as I don't usually do brown or anything as organic as wood, but I'm branching out.

Nice score there, and I love the new buttons.

Well done!

I love turning a good thrift find into an excellent one (haven't dyed any ... yet ... but button changes and redistribution can work wonders)
