childhood hero thing
Just got back from seeing Jane Goodall speak. The hall was packed. Her lecture was as good as I remembered from when I was a kid - articulate, engaging, intelligent but not so fraught with scientific terminology as to be hard to understand.
There was a book signing after the lecture (! unexpected), so I even got to shake her hand and tell her how I followed her career from the time I was a little girl (blush). It was the best I could come up with - I never think of anything clever to say even when I'm NOT rushed-for-time-talking-to-childhood-hero, so I think I did rather well.
D. enjoyed the lecture as well, and picked up some books for the nieces/nephews.
