triumph of the fangeeks

[livejournal.com profile] jlsjlsjls warned me over a month ago that the sci-fi fan knitting community had glommed on to Jayne's knitted hat with glee - evidently there just isn't much good knitting in science fiction, so when they see a goodie, they go for it.

However, I never expected the Firefly-fan knitters to create a yarn shortage and achieve knittingdom microcelebrity (found thru [livejournal.com profile] betnoir! This just cracks me up, because anyone who's seen the episode knows it's a godawful ugly orange and yellow thing! It's downright unsettlin' </jayne>

No, I can't knit, so no Jayne hat for me, nor any attempt to purchase said hat. D. also has no interest in the hat, but, let's face it - if you've met D. you'd know he's a "Wash" guy, through and through, complete with dry sense of humor and amazing facility with technical equipment. His opinion on plastic dinosaurs: "they're ok". See what I mean?

LOL!!!!! I'm not at all surprised ... the whole Jayne hat thing has been MUCH bigger than the knitted Marvin (H2G2) craze.

Now I'll have to REALLY pay attention when I go to see the movie again ... according to one of the comments, the hat DID make a millisecond appearance in the film. :D
