new inspiration
Went through my enormous cache of fabric scraps and found some remnants of red Chinese silk brocade that has been festering away for a couple of years. I also found some leftover red linen canvas from the bolt I bought for the Tudor gown, and some denim/twill I had used to cover our old sofa until I got a fitted drop for it.
So, I've decided to make a pair of front lacing stays out of the brocade. All I need is thread, trim, and lacing. I can use cable ties as boning (I just love the Elizabethan Costumer's Guide to Home Depot).
I suppose I'll be able to wear these as period stays - it would certainly spare D. the time and trouble of lacing me into my current back-lacer. However, I'm thinking more along the lines of this - not original I know, but it looks so damn good!
In other news, D.'s sister is in town briefly and we had dinner with her last night. I am so lucky to have such cool in-laws. That entire family is so chill, I can't figure it.
