brain dump

Went out to the Smithsonian today to see the "Virtue and Beauty" exhibit of Renaissance women portraits. It was a (relatively) small exhibit but exquisite. I especially enjoyed getting to see the *other* sides of these portraits, which were also painted with mottoes and garlands about the person in the portrait. There were some miniatures that were amazing to look at....the detail was great but on such a tiny scale, like they painted it with a hair.

I love museums, I really do - I should really make the effort to get down there more often!

On the metro to and from I was able to think quietly for a bit, and came up with the following burning questions/thoughts:

    1) Why does Vogue Patterns feel it necessary to hide some of their designer patterns in the "generic" section of their pattern book? I ran across a Montana and an Anne Klein in the "Sportswear" section that I didn't even know existed. Hell of a way to confuse the consumer, especially one that will cheerfully buy almost any designer pattern when it's 75% off.

    2) Every now and then I browse the web about my favorite TV shows because I can't figure out where I saw that actor before, or can't figure out where that weird plotline started. I am constantly astounded at the relentless creativity and tenacity of the fans. Sometimes a little too creative - the idea that Buffy/Giles shipper fanfic is out there just pushes my limits of sanity and good taste - its almost as heretical as Mulder/Scully fanfic. Where on earth do people come up with some of this sh!t? Think I'll just stick to IMDB from now on.

    3) Is it possible for a pattern to change size, spontaneously in its folder? Last time I made that !(*)%^#$! partlet the pattern was the right size. Now the back fits but I'm having to trim and re-trim the front (???) One of the simpler projects I could have tackled and its taking forever to trim and try on and trim and..

    4) All of the clothing on the women in the Renaissance portraits today looked just so perfect... of course, these are paintings and not actual photographs, maybe in reality it didn't go together that well. I wonder if/when mine will ever look that good.

    5) I've been laying off the caffiene for 2 days but my head is trying to have migraines. Why?

    6) I am tired of food. Are there any interesting recipes out there that don't take all day and involve expensive/hard to find ingredients?

Sure, I could answer some of these questions if I'd just put forth the effort, or if I'd take time to learn better pattern drafting. But I'm lazy today and just took painkillers to try and head off another migraine.

I feel like shopping.

Maybe tomorrow I will.
