More duster notes
May be awhile before I have anything substantial to report again - 3 day weekend + snowed in = lots of sewing time, which is regrettably a rarity.
Fitted and re-cut the 2nd muslin. I was able to use the piecing in the shoulder to take out the extra fullness in that area. I was hoping to draft out the waist dart for a smoother line, but it looks terrible when I do that, so it will have to be left in. The direction of the "point" on the sleeves will have to be reversed as well - I got it backwards. Apart from these relatively minor changes, I think I'm ready to draft the final pattern!
I still have not decided on fabric - shiny black vinyl + shiny gunmetal grey vinyl would be ideal (it would go with my New Rocks!) but I have been unable to find the latter. There does need to be a contrast of luster or color, otherwise this will look like something anyone could buy in a store! The two candidates are matte black pleather + shiny black vinyl or shiny black vinyl + shiny olive vinyl. All depending, of course, on Buny's current stock - my sample pack had some colors she doesn't list here.
Working with vinyl is a pill, as are the added complications of multiple curved seams and the bulk of piping.
Can't wait ;)
