odds and ends
I Googled myself for the first time today. Given the variety of people who google others, I figured it would be a good idea to be prepared for whatever dirt might be out there for the digging up.
Luckily (??) it's all rather boring. A few college posts to alt.fetish.fashion about fetish designers (I wonder if Pam Hogg is still in business?), posts to costuming lists I don't remember, references to an actress with my last name, and a handful of geneaology sites clearly discussing people born in the 18th and 19th centuries. Ain't got nothing on me :P
Speaking of geneaology, the long-standing family tradition that my dad's side of the family is descended from Cherokee indians has been discovered to be most likely true. I started the search and embarassingly dropped the ball, but my dad and uncle ran with it and found the family name my grandmother mentioned on an 1835 Cherokee census. My great-great-etc. grandmother is not listed by her first name in the census, but she appears in other documents that are in the right place and time for it to be the same family. Kind of interesting - it does explain some physical characteristics on that side of the family, and it's always nice to have rumors confirmed one way or another.
I got a list of classes that will be offered at Costume Con in Chicago. I'm still not sure if I'm going - if D.'s family is doing something for Easter that takes priority - but it all does look VERY fun! They have both Historical and Sci-Fi Fantasy masquerades, but I'm trying to find out if you can attend without competing - what I have is not going to set the world on fire and it's unlikely that I'll be able to finish anything new before then.
Speaking of which - ooh, look at the time! I should probably at least go mark the eyelets on the stays even if I can't start punching them.
And, oh yes - I'll be catsitting for
geekchick's boy Gateway this weekend. Fuzzie :)
