electric fencing
I didn't get the workout I hoped I'd get at club tonight, but on the upside, 1) A. and I got another of our classmates to go, and 2) I got to try electric fencing (borrowed equipment).
It's interesting. In order for the electric foils to detect a hit, you have to wear a lamé vest covering the target area (for foil, the torso). You also have to wire the foil to an electric "bungee cord" (my terminology) so it can set off the light/buzzer when you hit.
Pro: You KNOW when you've hit the target area. Con: Because of the extra layer of clothing, I couldn't feel when I'd been hit. I was also less focused on technique and more on simply hitting the target - bad habit to get into.
I fenced an extremely fast left-hander. Needless to say, I didn't hit a DAMN thing. But it was interesting to try.
As it is, I've somehow stressed my back today, so perhaps it is just as well that I didn't bout for a solid hour.
We hope to get even more people next week. The holidays are over, they have no excuses now!
