already

I've started packing for the SCA event this coming weekend (yes, I drive up Friday, but I'm packing now. Portrait of anxiety, aisle one...)

This involves two completely different sets of clothing: garb (costume) and "mundanes" (everyday/modern clothing). There's very little overlap between the two.

And this isn't even a long or outdoor event!

Regular SCAdians, how do you manage this without overpacking or forgetting something??

Edited to add: this is also a rapier event, so add packing my sword/protective gear to the mix..

I saw that there was a masked ball in the evening. **sigh** That means dressy stuff. And a mask. I don't know that I have any "period" masks. (Full face veils?)

The fact that this is a heavy duty costume event makes me want to bring the most historically accurate stuff I have. (Viking)

I will probably bring and outfit for Fri. evening (I've yet to decide if it will be 16th c. Turkish or one of my t-tunics), one for Sat. (the under tunic with the hand spun sewing thread), and possibly a Turkish for the ball.

The problem for me is to balance what looks good vs. what's accurate. (I also have issues with how earlier periods get treated because they aren't as flashy. Just because something is a t-tunic doesn't mean it's not as spiff but a lot of people think t-tunics are just the beginning and you "graduate" to more complicated garb.) It's hard.

Plus there's the not doing anything fancy in forever, and my stock of nice, fancy, accurate garb is pretty non-existent.

Mundanes will be a skirt or two and a t-shirt or two and a heavier pull over something (sweatshirt/sweater/hoodie) plus the essentials. I'll be able to keep it light because it's just one day and I won't have the urge to change in the middle of the day, several times, like at Pennsic or cons. (Though Pennsic is usually a weather change rather than I want to show off more clothes change.)

For major events? I usually make a packing list and strike things off as I put them in my suitcase.
